Fish Oil or Cod Liver Oil better?

recently got to know the difference between these 2 products and wish to share with my friends, especially those with children and taking cod liver oil.

Ever wonder which part of the Cod is cod liver oil's ingredient? yes, its Cod's Liver.. what does a liver do, everyone should know right? Cod liver oil is a yellowish oil obtained from the liver of the codfish. The oil is rich in vitamin A and vitamin D (calciferol). It was long used as a preventive and cure for rickets in Baltic and Scandinavian countries, where fish is a dietary staple. However, it was not until the 1920s that doctors in the U.S. finally recognized its therapeutic usefulness. More palatable synthetic vitamins have largely replaced cod-liver oil as dietary supplements, and almost all the milk sold in the United States and Europe now contains added vitamins A and D. imagine everyone, where can we get Vitamin A from? Yes, from fruits like carrots, tomatoes, etc.. how about Vitamin D? yes, from sunlight.. both vitamins are easily available..

see this webiste for more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_liver_oil

how about fish oil (Omega-6)? Actually Omega-6 is a fatty acid which is important for your health. They are usually made of DHA and EPA plus a slight HFA for both of them to act together and give its utmost result.. in our body, both the products can produce the best results if they are in a proportion of 3:2 (e.g. 450mg of DHA : 300mg of EPA). Proven by scientist and doctor.. though the value of the proportion varies from each brand. So where do you get DHA and EPA?

it was mentioned in the website that Vitamin A and Vitamin D is lesser in fish oil than in cod liver oil or even nil. however think again: Can Vit A and Vit D be taken in so frequent? the answer is NO. both vitamins are fats soluable - that is they will resides in your fats if excess, which will not be dissolve easily. See statement in the website: "This may pose a problem in that one may need to exceed the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamins A and D in order to obtain therapeutic amounts of EPA and DHA from cod liver oil. These vitamins are fat soluble, so it's possible for dietary excess (well above the RDA) to accumalate and become harmful." thus most parents who gave cod liver oil to their child, will sure be abit more round and fatty than normal kids..

if you are a parent, think careful, which one will you give to your child?
Do warn your friends if you know if anyone is taking them. Let me know if they are looking for a good fish oil to replace the cod liver oil. Do not anyhow buy!!! because i have seen one type of fish oil (from G**) and the softgel shell is so hard that it seems cannot be dissolved in the body.. if its possible, email me the dietary supplement ingredients so that i can advice you if its good.. free consulation!! :) Please pass this info to your friends whom might be interested..
